HOW TO CLEAN GLASS SHOWER DOORS

Glass shower doors

Glass shower doors tend to show even small amounts of soap scum and mineral deposits. However, there are tricks you can use to reduce the amount of time and energy you spend cleaning. Here’s what you need to know to make and keep your glass shower doors clean.

Gather your supplies To take your shower door from spotty to sparkling, you’ll first need to gather the following supplies: • Vinegar • Dish detergent • Spray bottle • Baking soda • Microfibre cloth or soft sponge • Toothbrush • White toothpaste Make sure to avoid using steel wool or scouring pads. In addition, ammonia- and alcohol-based cleaners should be avoided. These can do more harm than good. Use the right method Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, do the following: • Mix your cleaning solution For best results, combine two-parts vinegar and one part liquid dish detergent in a spray bottle. For lighter cleaning, add one-part water. • Apply the solution and wait Spray the mixture over your glass shower doors and wall and fixtures. Wait approximately 30 minutes for the cleaning solution to penetrate the scum. • Scrub and wipe With a microfibre cloth or soft sponge, wipe off the cleaning solution and soap scum along with it. This might take a little work. For stubborn grime, use a little baking soda to scrub the area clean. • Clean the runners The runners on glass shower doors can get pretty dirty. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush with white toothpaste to give it a gentle wash. Rinse with vinegar and then clean water. • Dry off the glass Use a microfibre towel to ensure all surfaces are dry and free of droplets. Repeat the above steps until your shower is completely clean. Here’s what you should do: 1. Use a hand-held shower head. Use it to rinse all the walls and doors after every shower including hard-to-reach areas. 2. Hang a squeegee in your shower. Wipe off excess water from glass doors and walls after each use. 3. Use baby or lemon oil. After cleaning, wipe down the glass with baby or lemon oil. This prevents soap scum and minerals from sticking to the glass. Lemon oil will leave your shower smelling fresh and clean.
